Summary
Description
The Physician and the Hyena, by Frederick Stuart Church. Museum impression dated 1878; black ink on paper. This composition matches the engraving on H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 1, page 98, item 2.
The same illustration appears in G. Washington Æsop [George Thomas Lanigan], Fables (1878), p. 43; the fable's title is on p. 42. This is a matching museum impression, not a claim that the album clipping came from that book. The first publication and the physical carrier of the album clipping remain unestablished.

File and processing
JPEG, 1312 × 2205 pixels. Derived directly from the official uncompressed 4593 × 5457 RGB TIFF. The complete source is retained unchanged. One four-corner perspective alignment and crop was applied, with one bicubic resampling. The frame corners in the source image are (1261,1370), (2533,1372), (2542,3537), and (1259,3546), clockwise from the top left, measured to approximately 5 pixels. Small paper margins retain the full engraving and printed border. The surrounding museum album page, outer surrounding rule and accession annotation elsewhere on the page are outside the crop. There is no printed caption inside this illustration to remove.
No enlargement, added background, colour or tonal correction, sharpening, retouching or reconstruction was applied. Source TIFF SHA-256: 82b6ae21335ead11119b946e8d50329b4de713453259c6e210c4d2129cab978e.
