Description

Mount Orgueil Castle, Jersey. From The Channel Islands, Harper's New Monthly Magazine, volume LI (51), no. CCCI (301), June 1875 (New York: Harper & Brothers, 1875), printed p.8. The bound volume covers June to November 1875; the issue opening identifies June 1875, no.301. The printed title page explicitly gives LI; the repository headline's Volume 29 is inconsistent with both that title and its volume-51 metadata and is not used as the bibliographic identification.

The castle, settlement, harbour, sailing boats, long pier, coastal rocks and caption match the scrapbook engraving. The artist and engraver have not been securely identified here. This witness does not establish the first-ever appearance or identify the physical copy used for the scrapbook. Compared with H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 3, page 79, item 3.

No enlargement, colour or tonal correction, sharpening, retouching or reconstruction was applied. PNG compression is lossless; the source page itself is JPEG.
