Summary
Description
Creux du Derrible, Sark. The interior of a coastal cavern at Sark, with two bright openings, water, foreground rocks and visitors, from The Channel Islands. The signature W. J. Linton is preserved. The cave openings, rocks, figures and hatching match the right-hand scrapbook view; its caption and outer edges were trimmed in the album. The artist's and engraver's individual roles are not independently established here.
Harper's New Monthly Magazine, vol.51, no.301, June1875, printed p.13. The issue number and date were read on the actual opening page of this scanned volume. The printed title gives volumeLI; the catalogue headline Volume29 is inconsistent and is not used here.
Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume3, page179, right-hand view. This witness does not establish the first-ever appearance or identify the physical copy used for the scrapbook. Other neighbouring scrapbook pictures and text are not part of this engraving.
