Description

Schuylkill Bluffs, below Edgely. A view across the Schuylkill, framed by trees and foreground foliage, with the far bank reflected in the water. The branches, foliage, water, far bank, hatching and caption match the lower-left scrapbook view. The individual roles and full names of artist and engraver have not been securely established here.

From Philadelphia and Its Environs, and the Railroad Scenery of Pennsylvania, with225illustrations (Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott & Co., [1875]), printed p.71. The title is undated in print; its Library of Congress copyright stamp, pencilled date, printed copyright verso and catalogue record identify1875. This witness is not the Centennial1876 edition.

Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume3, page219, bottom-left view. The album combines separate cuttings; this witness does not establish the first-ever appearance or the physical source copy used for them.

The original paper colour, marks, show-through, engraved details and caption are retained. No PDF rasterization, enlargement, colour or tonal correction, sharpening, retouching or reconstruction was applied. PNG compression is lossless.
