Summary

Description

John King. As Materialized in England. Portrait reproduced in Henry T. Child, Narratives of the Spirits of Sir Henry Morgan and His Daughter Annie, usually known as John and Katie King, Philadelphia: Hering, Pope & Co., 112 N. 12th Street, [1874], unnumbered portrait plate (PDF page 9). The year is confirmed by the printed copyright entry on PDF page 2. Illustrator and engraver unidentified; Child is the book's author, not an established artist credit.

The engraved portrait matches the image on HPB-SB-3-257, item 3, including the turban folds, facial and beard strokes, background hatching, hanging fabric and clothing. The book's caption typography differs from the album cutting. This is a matching book reproduction, not an identification of the physical newspaper carrier or a claim of first publication. The printed spirit identification is the historical source's claim. The alternative Katie King portrait in this book is not an exact match to album item 2 and is not included.
