Summary

Description

Schenck's Calendar for 1877, matching the floral calendar design in H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 4, page 3, item 1. The roses and daisies, leaves and stems, five advertising slips, calendar grid and printer's imprint correspond. The NYPL impression has a dark green-black background while the album shows blue. This is the same design in a different colour/printing condition, not the same physical exemplar; no colour alteration has been applied to make them agree. Individual flower artist not established.

The advertising slips identify Dr. J. H. Schenck & Son, Pulmonic Syrup, Seaweed Tonic and Mandrake Pills. Historical medical advertising language is retained as source content, not advice.

Source

The upper floral 1877 calendar on NYPL sheet 482903. The lower red 1878 calendar is a separate composition, excluded from this crop and used separately on HPB-SB-7-3.

The calendar footer reads McCALLA & STAVELY, PRS., 237–9 DOCK ST., PHILA. The lower-left advertising slip also prints COPYRIGHT 1876 BY L. PRANG & CO. The NYPL catalogue records L. Prang & Co.; that collection/publisher heading does not erase the distinct printed McCalla & Stavely credit. The calendar year is 1877; the catalogue Date Issued is 1876, and the printed copyright is 1876. Neither is asserted as a separately established first-publication date.

File and processing

Lossless RGB PNG, 1949 × 2357 pixels, from the received 3438 × 4703 full-sheet JPEG. A single 0.2996927° clockwise BICUBIC rotation on the full native canvas, without expansion, measured from the median of eighteen long central calendar rules. Support-mask minimum 255 over the final crop; no exterior fill wedges. Final pixels independently reproduced from the recorded transform.
