Summary

Description

Le grand temple d’Amritsir et l’Amrita-Sara ou lac de l’immortalité. An ornate temple beside a pool, with two tall minarets, surrounding buildings and trees, and detailed reflections. Architectural details, foliage, water hatching and the E. THEROND and C. LAPLANTE signatures match the scrapbook engraving titled The Temple at Umritzur. This French edition retains its own French caption; the different English album caption is not substituted into the scanned plate.

From Louis Rousselet, L’Inde des rajahs: Voyage dans l’Inde centrale et dans les présidences de Bombay et du Bengale, deuxième édition (Paris: Librairie Hachette et Cie, 1877). The physical title page prints 1877, 317 wood engravings and six maps. The plate is labelled 655 in the scan’s page sequence, raw leaf713 / reader n674; the complete plate has no clearly legible printed folio, so 655 is used as the sequence label. The earlier English-language carrier and the physical impression used in the scrapbook are not established. Signatures are retained exactly as printed; no unidentified photographer is named.

Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky’s Scrapbooks, volume4, page104, item2. The album image, printed album caption, handwriting, notes and transcription remain separate witnesses and are not altered.
