Summary

Description

St. Brelade’s Church, Jersey. The church of St. Brelade in Jersey, with its sloping roofs, arched doors and windows, enclosed churchyard, gravestones and a man wearing a top hat. The building, railings, monuments, figure, vegetation and hatching match the scrapbook. The engraved surname WELLS is retained; an individual full name is not inferred from that surname alone.

The Channel Islands, Harper's New Monthly Magazine, vol. LI (51), no. CCCI (301), June 1875, printed p.10. The bound volume covers June to November 1875. The actual printed issue opening supplies the volume number, date and issue number. The individual artist and engraver are not securely identified here.

Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 4, page 142, item 1. This witness does not establish the first publication or identify the physical copy used for the scrapbook cutting.
