Summary

Description

Archer japonais (troupes du Siogoun), Aimé Humbert, Le Japon illustré, volume I (Paris: Librairie de L. Hachette, 1870), printed page 226. This is the same printed composition as HPB-SB-4-166, image item 5: kneeling archer in armour, wrapped headcloth, quiver, bow and arrow, swords, stonework, mountains and the individual hatching patterns. The printed signatures THEROND and GAUCHARD and the French caption are retained. The photograph/engraving comparison already present in Sources remains a separate witness.

This is a matching historical printed witness, not proof of the exact publication or physical copy from which the album clipping was taken. This 1870 caption does not name the photographer. The album's existing image, note and attribution remain unchanged.
