Summary
Description
El Kantara, Suez Canal. Camels and people cross the Suez Canal on a ferry at El Kantara, with a jetty, buildings, tall trees, boats and a large ship behind. Positions of the figures, camel heads, crossed railings, ferry timbers, chain, masts, water hatching and background structures match the scrapbook. The full composition, printed frame and two-line caption are retained: The Prince’s Route to India: El Kantara, Suez Canal. From a sketch by one of our special artists. The generic credit is not expanded to a named artist or engraver. The original sideways printed arrangement is rotated for upright viewing.
From The Illustrated London News, vol. LXVII (67), no. 1893, Saturday, 20 November 1875, printed p. 504. The physical opening-page masthead prints the issue number, volume and date. The other complete source-page headers likewise print the date and folio. The opening page’s folio 497 is identified by the volume sequence and library canvas label; a visible printed 497 is not claimed on the masthead. The first publication in all editions and the physical copy used for the scrapbook cutting are not established.
Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky’s Scrapbooks, volume 5, page 11, item 1. Original album images, captions, notes, handwriting, metadata, transcription and previous materials remain unchanged.

File and processing
PNG, 3835 × 2730 pixels, RGB. Complete input: 3215 × 4680 pixels, 2326257 bytes, SHA-256 32f9e17e794d1a78b88e58e1d088b522190e70d01b6ede87124b377e2e24276c.
Lossless 90-degree clockwise transpose, then crop (390, 420)–(4285, 3210) in the upright image. No fine resampling: the measured frame-rule slope is already within tolerance (+0.023727 degrees). The orientation reference is the robust bottom of the long printed picture-frame rule; the scan’s slight local paper curvature is retained. Final trim (30, 30)–(3865, 2760); right and bottom bounds are exclusive. No added canvas is retained. Complete printed picture, frame, caption or decorative border and meaningful marks remain. Original paper colour, show-through, stains, minor colour moiré and scan artefacts remain. No enlargement, tonal or colour correction, sharpening, retouching, watermark removal or reconstruction was applied. PNG compression is lossless; the input JPEG is preserved unchanged.
