Summary

Description

The Maharajah of Jeypore. Bust portrait captioned The Maharajah of Jeypore. The turban and feather, facial mark, moustache, hair, necklace, embroidered clothing and star-shaped decoration match the scrapbook. The complete bust, background hatching, printed marks and caption are retained. The separate portrait of the minister of Baroda and the Elephanta scene on the full page are outside the crop. An individual artist, engraver or photographic source for this exact portrait is not established here; credits in neighbouring album text are not automatically transferred to it. The album’s handwritten note is separate and remains unchanged.

From The Illustrated London News, vol. LXVII (67), no. 1893, 20 November 1875, printed p. 516. The complete source-page header prints the date and folio. The issue masthead on the previously reviewed p. 497 prints the number, volume and date; the same retained immutable witness is identified in the dossier. The first publication in all editions and the physical copy used for the scrapbook cutting are not established.

Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky’s Scrapbooks, volume 5, page 79, item 2. Album images, captions, articles, handwriting, notes, metadata, footnotes and prior sources remain unchanged.
