Summary

Description

The Guicowar of Baroda. The young Guicowar of Baroda sits between long cylindrical cushions, with attendants holding large ceremonial fans or fly-whisks, another seated figure holding a sheet, and a draped figure behind. The people, headgear, fan shapes, garments, carpet, vessels, cushion patterns and hatching match the scrapbook. The complete composition, printed frame, small marks and two-line caption The Guicowar of Baroda. From a Sketch by One of Our Special Artists. are retained. That generic credit is not expanded to a named artist or engraver.

From The Illustrated London News, vol. LXVII (67), no. 1896, Saturday, 11 December 1875, printed p. 572. The complete page prints the date and folio, and the separately retained issue front, printed p. 569 / canvas 649, directly confirms the issue number, volume and date. This is an additional natural-colour witness, compared with the already published monochrome File:SB-05-100-source-1.jpg. That file, its existing 200-pixel gallery and complete caption remain unchanged. The colour witness is not claimed to have more native pixels or universally greater optical sharpness than the existing file. The first appearance in all editions and the physical copy used for the scrapbook cutting are not established.

Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky’s Scrapbooks, volume 5, page 100, item 1. Album images, captions, author parameters, articles, handwriting, crossed-out words, notes, metadata, footnotes and prior sources remain unchanged.
