Summary
Description
A Rajah Going in State to a Reception by the Prince of Wales at Bombay. A rajah rides in an open carriage with attendants, surrounded by mounted and walking figures. The faces, headgear, carriage body, large wheel and spokes, horses, ceremonial staffs, buildings and vegetation match the scrapbook. The complete composition, frame, small marks and two-line caption A Rajah Going in State to a Reception by the Prince of Wales at Bombay. From a Sketch by One of Our Special Artists. are retained. The source’s full printed caption includes words crossed out in the scrapbook caption; the scrapbook’s wording and marks remain unchanged. The generic artist credit is not expanded to a name.
From The Illustrated London News, vol. LXVII (67), no. 1896, Saturday, 11 December 1875, printed p. 573. The complete page prints the date and folio, and the separately retained issue front, printed p. 569 / canvas 649, directly confirms the issue number, volume and date. This is an additional natural-colour witness, compared with the already published monochrome File:SB-05-106-source-1.jpg. That file, its existing 200-pixel gallery and complete caption remain unchanged. The colour witness is not claimed to have more native pixels or universally greater optical sharpness than the existing file. The first appearance in all editions and the physical copy used for the scrapbook cutting are not established.
Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky’s Scrapbooks, volume 5, page 106, item 1. Album images, captions, author parameters, articles, handwriting, crossed-out words, notes, metadata, footnotes and prior sources remain unchanged.
