Summary

Description

Bayard Taylor. Same engraved bust as H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 8, page 322, item 1: the left profile, curly hair, cheek and beard contours, collar, tie, jacket hatching and small engraved signature agree. The NYPL printing has an oval and ornamental rectangular surround, and a different caption. The album cutting is headed Death of Bayard Taylor at Berlin, December 19; that is an event date, not a demonstrated issue date. The immediate printing used for the album remains unidentified. No expanded artist or engraver name is inferred from the signature.

The Daily Graphic, New York, Friday, 20 December 1878, as printed in the complete source clipping's header. No printed page number is established. NYPL's Date Created agrees with 20 December, while its content note says 25 December 1878; this discrepancy is retained, with the directly printed header used for this witness.

The separate newspaper header remains visible in the linked full clipping. The frame and caption are already horizontal; no additional rotation or resampling. No enlargement, colour or tonal adjustment, sharpening, retouching or reconstruction. This small independent printing witness is not presented as a resolution upgrade over the album. The complete source file remains unchanged.
