Their demi‐god, Votan, is made to describe in ''Popol Vu ''(see de Bourbourg’s work) the ''ahugero de colubra ''which is identical with the “Serpent’s Catacombs”, or passage, adding that it ran underground and “terminated at the root of heaven”, into which ''serpent’s hole, ''Votan was, admitted because he was himself “a son of the Serpents”, or a ''Dragon of Wisdom'', i.e., an Initiate.
