Medhurst, Walter Henry. English Congregationalist missionary to China, b. in London, 1796, and who died there Jan. 24, 1857. Educated at St. Paul’s School, he became a missionary for the London Miss. Society at Shanghai from 1842 to 1856. Prepared a version of the Bible in High Wen-li. With John Stronach he also translated the N.T. into the Mandarin dialect of Nanking.
