Summary
Description
Ralph Waldo Emerson. Engraved portrait of Ralph Waldo Emerson, with a bow tie, waistcoat and chain, accompanied by a printed facsimile signature. The artist and engraver have not been securely identified here.
From Concord Books, Harper's New Monthly Magazine, vol. LI (51), no. CCCI (301), June 1875, printed p.25. The issue number and date are printed on the actual opening page of this scanned volume. Its printed title gives volumeLI; the repository headline Volume29 is inconsistent with both that title and its volume51 metadata and is not used here.
The face, hair, bow tie, chain, folds and hatching match the scrapbook portrait. The facsimile R. W. Emerson is printed on the journal page and retained in this crop; the scrapbook trims it away and adds a handwritten identification. Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume3, page200, item3. This witness does not establish the first-ever appearance or identify the physical copy used for the scrapbook. The album text and editorial notes are not changed.

File and processing
PNG, 1871 × 2716 pixels, RGB. Retained complete source JPEG: 2976 × 4882 pixels, 1561245 bytes, SHA-256 2485d567be3bb8c7f7014abed5a87e0330b98bc8ca73b7da8a4a2646f0bfdfe9.
Crop from(865, 470)–(2760, 3210), then trim to(12, 12)–(1883, 2728); right and bottom bounds are exclusive. The printed page header was corrected by 0.187601 degrees counterclockwise with one bicubic resampling. The slant of a drawn or facsimile signature was not used as an alignment reference. Small fragments of adjacent original prose at the left boundary and show-through are retained without erasing or filling paper. No added canvas is included. Natural paper colour, marks and show-through are preserved. No enlargement, colour or tonal correction, sharpening, retouching or reconstruction was applied. PNG compression is lossless; the source itself is JPEG. The complete page, with all original text and any printed facsimile, remains linked above.
