Summary
Description
Dar Goes Anudder. Two men stand at a farm gate while sheep run through it and across the field. The men, gate, shed, individual sheep, ground, vegetation, caption and engraved Abbey signature match the scrapbook. The accompanying article by General Egbert L. Viele tells of Tom counting sheep. Viele is the author of the text; the engraved signature is retained literally, and the individual artist and engraver roles are not separately established here. Original adjacent journal prose remains in the upper-right part of the rectangular fragment, without masking, erasure or replacement paper.
From The Knickerbockers of New York Two Centuries Ago, Harper's New Monthly Magazine, vol. LIV (54), no. CCCXIX (319), December 1876, printed p.41. The printed issue opening supplies the issue number and date. The bound volume covers December 1876 to May 1877 and is catalogued as 1877; the issue date used here is December 1876.
Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 3, page 237, item 6. This witness does not establish the first publication or identify the physical copy used for the scrapbook cutting.
