Summary
Description
A Perfect Cow. The head, neck and shoulder of a cow, within a circular engraved frame. The horns, face, ear, outline, hatching and facsimile Beckwith signature match H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 7, page 185, item 1. The full circular frame, faint strokes and printed caption are retained. The scrapbook's separate handwriting and mounting discolouration are not part of this source witness.
From A New England Dairy and Stock Farm, Harper's New Monthly Magazine, volume LVII, no. 341, October 1878, p. 641 (New York: Harper & Brothers). This is the issue and article opening. The page prints No. CCCXLI, October 1878 and Vol. LVII; folio 641 is established by the source leaf/page sequence and is not visibly printed on this layout. The physical bound title page prints June to November 1878. The repository's generic date 1913 is not this physical volume's publication date.
The literal signature Beckwith is retained without expanding it into an unverified full name. Individual artist and engraver identities have not been independently established here; article authorship is not transferred to the illustration. The first appearance and the physical source copy used for the scrapbook cutting remain unestablished.
