Summary
Description
Menhaden-Fishing off Montauk Point. A fishing steamer and a small boat with fishermen, surrounded by waves and birds, with a lighthouse and sailing craft behind. The vessel, mast and rigging, men, boats, waves, birds and lighthouse match the scrapbook cutting.
From Around the Peconics, Harper's New Monthly Magazine, volume LVII, no. 341, October 1878, p. 722 in the volume sequence (New York: Harper & Brothers). The illustration page has no visible folio; the exact source scandata maps raw leaf 738 to page 722. The bound volume's title page prints June to November 1878; its October issue opening prints No. CCCXLI. The repository's generic metadata date 1913 is not the publication date of this physical volume.
Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 7, page 218, item 1. Individual artist and engraver roles have not been securely established here; article authorship is not transferred to the illustration. Small engraved marks and signatures where present are retained. This is a matching published witness, not proof of the first appearance or the physical copy used for the scrapbook cutting.

No enlargement, colour or tonal correction, sharpening, retouching, removal of a stamp or reconstruction was applied. PNG compression is lossless; the complete input remains unchanged.
