Summary

Description

Historic Bits in Southampton. The complete composite of four house and interior views, with figures, trees, fences, windows and engraved labels. All four views and their arrangement match the scrapbook cutting. The journal page context is retained, including the running head, printed folio, adjacent article text and the complete Burlingame Public Library stamp. The album has a separate pale patch over part of the upper-left area; this source witness retains the journal text there.

From Around the Peconics, Harper's New Monthly Magazine, volume LVII, no. 341, October 1878, printed p. 725 (New York: Harper & Brothers). The full source page directly prints its folio 725. The bound volume's title page prints June to November 1878; its October issue opening prints No. CCCXLI. The repository's generic metadata date 1913 is not the publication date of this physical volume.

Compared directly with H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 7, page 253, item 1. Individual artist and engraver roles have not been securely established here; article authorship is not transferred to the illustration. Small engraved marks and signatures where present are retained. This is a matching published witness, not proof of the first appearance or the physical copy used for the scrapbook cutting.
