Summary

Description

Illustrated headpiece for Hermesianax Pratt, matching the upper illustration on the back scan H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 10, page 300, back/300.1, album scan. The globe labelled Australia/America, central aquarium with fish, surrounding figures, animals, weapons and their arrangement match the album. The pasted Russian newspaper heading and text in the album are a collage overlay; they do not establish that this printed illustration originated in Новое время.

Source

Puck, vol. VI, no. 151, 28 January 1880, printed p. 768, PDF page 10, headpiece above Hermesianax Pratt, part first, Oceanica, chapter I, The Foundling of the Seas. The text credits its illustrations to A. Robida; no separate engraver is identified. The complete page and dated issue cover were personally examined. The cover imprint is Keppler & Schwarzmann, New York; the archive's generic Open Court publisher metadata is not substituted for the printed imprint.

The fold-out coloured map in Robida's Voyages très extraordinaires de Saturnin Farandoul uses related elements, but the Puck headpiece rearranges figures and changes lettering and details. That map is not an exact colour impression of this whole matrix. No first-ever publication or exact physical exemplar of the album cutting is claimed.

Thank you to Internet Archive for freely providing the complete issue and its preservation metadata. Source: Serials in Microfilm, reel IA1630702-01.
