Summary

Description

Que pouvait être cet animal inconnu?, illustration by A. Robida in Voyages très extraordinaires de Saturnin Farandoul, matching the lower illustration on the back scan H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 10, page 300, back/300.1, album scan. The family of monkeys, the infant held upside down above the cradle, the right-hand monkey reading a sheet, and the tails, landscape and small figures match. The same matrix is reprinted in Puck, 28 January 1880, p. 768, without the French caption. This is a matching book witness, not an assertion that the physical album cutting came from this book.

The photographed title credits texte et dessins par A. Robida and both publishers; it does not print a year. [1879] is the Getty/Internet Archive catalogue date, explicitly sourced there to Lorenz, not an inferred printed date or exact day of first publication.

File and processing

Lossless RGB PNG, 1784 × 1476 pixels. PDF page 13 combines a 739 × 1233 RGB paper/background layer with a 2217 × 3698 RGB foreground and its JBIG2 mask. The PDF rounds the physical page to 399 × 665 points; both layers were faithfully composed on the original foreground's 2217 × 3698 pixel canvas, using that full canvas's width and height rather than enlarging the foreground to a 4000-pixel preview. Original layer streams remain unchanged in local evidence.

One fine 0.143243° clockwise BICUBIC rotation on the complete native canvas, measured from a robust median of the printed French caption's letter baselines; no canvas expansion. The original subject rectangle (220, 1070)–(2000, 2540) was transformed, then enclosed by exact crop (218, 1067)–(2002, 2543), right/bottom exclusive. All monkeys, cradle, tails, landscape and the complete French caption remain. Support-mask minimum255: no exterior fill wedges. Complete composition and final pixels independently reproduced.

No enlargement, tonal adjustment, colourization, sharpening, retouching or reconstruction. Changes: faithful source-layer composition, fine rotation and cropping only. This is a larger rendition of the same scene already represented by File:Robida А - Voyages 1.jpg; that prior file is preserved.
