A. Raja Sastry, Govindappa Street, Combacomum.
20. Honorary chairman Dewan Ramaiengar avergal with a statesman’s genius grasps the Basic idea of the President-Founder when he writes “you can not feel more strongly than I do on the desirableness of bringing about what you call Hindu Unity through Brahmanical unity, but I fear you underrate the difficulties in the way. If you tell me in what I can assist you, I shall be very glad to do so.” It is because there are great difficulties to be overcome with tact and prudence as Rajah Sir T. Madhava Row says and with knowledge, power, and persevering co-operation that so much pains have been taken to found the Hindu Sabba with branches in all parts. The mission of the President-Founder as regards the Hindu Sabba is now ended and proceedings from 1883 will kindly be signed and published through the Editor of the Hindu Reformer and politician by the Executive President or one of the Honorary chairmen for the President-Founder. The President-Founder will then be able to give his undivided attention to the proceedings of the Pandit council and all the help he seeks from the Hindu Sabba and Branches consisting of laymen is not to play the “Odam Kavitha bramachari” by disrespecting the rights of the Pandit-Priests to decide on the Religious interests of the nation as sectarianism, acharam, ceremonies, pilgrimages, &c. Next to this primary and negative help he seeks positive assistance to bring Pandits and Priests to consult together by employing them in connection with the Hindu Sabba Press, Library, and Schools. Respects every aid from the High Priests or Mada Chariars and the Sidhasramams and Theosophical societies if lay associations do their best to keep alive in themselves and respect in others the spiritual instinct and culture. There are a hundred and one purely loukika, political, social, commercial, agriculturrl caste &c., interests to be attended to without respect to the Pandit council. It is amusing to see a Library and Reading Room association memorialise on politics, Europeans airing themselves as authorities on Hindu Religion and Literature, Missionaries maintaining colleges for the University secular Examinations, and a jumble of laymen and officials addressing Priests and widows respecting Vedic rites.

21. Honorary Chairman Dewan Sashia Sastry writes “yonr journal is very good. My apathy has only been apparent. I shall read everything carefully and give my opinion.” The Tanjore people’s association presided over by such a veteran statesman is called upon by a journalist to give a decision on vedic rites and widow-remarriage and to join in memorialising the Achariars! The President Founder in Council would respectfully request every true Hindu not to attach much weight to Book-knowledge and Parliamentary discussions as the way to get at the truths of the Vedas and the Smrities or the Arsham in fact is unique:—
Manu 2-11—“Yoavamanyeta to mule, hetusâstrâsayat dwija; sa sadhubir bahiskaryo Nastiko Veda nindakah.”
2-140—“Upaniyatu yah Sishyam, Uedam adhyapayet dwijah, sa Kalpam sa Rahasyam cha, Tam Acharya prachakshate.”
