What sort of vibrations are we creating, experiencing envy?

In the Lexicon of Vladimir Dal the term “envy” is given the following definition: “an annoyance because of other’s property and the good” and as “not one’s wishing another person well, but only oneself”.

The definition to envy was given by the ancient Greek philosophers.

“Envy is always within ourselves, but only the Greeks were honest enough to admit this real fact and discussing the motives of human behavior, to talk about it quite openly,” - writes the English scholar P. Wolcott in his essay “Envy and the Greeks. The study of human behavior”.

So Plato in his “Dialogues” gives the following definition of envy: “Envy is sorrow about the benefits available to friends in the present or those they had in the past.”

Since the ancient Greeks time, many seeking minds have expressed their attitude to this destructive vice destroying even spiritual people.

For example, one of the first major philosophers of the New time, the Englishman Francis Bacon in “Essays, Civil and Moral” said of envy quite clearly:

“THERE be none of the affections which have been noted to fascinate or bewitch, but love and envy… For of other affections there is occasion given but now and then; and therefore it was well said, Invidia festos dies non agit [Envy keeps no holidays]: for it is ever working upon some or other. And it is also noted that love and envy do make a man pine, which other affections do not, because they are not so continual”.

So, according to Francis Bacon envy belongs to the category of evil eye or hex.

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky in her “Isis Unveiled” wrote about it in this way:

“The iettatura, or evil eye, is nothing but the direction of this invisible fluid, charged with malicious will and hatred, from one person to another, and sent out with the intention of harming him. It may equally be employed for a good or evil purpose. In the former case it is magic; in the latter, sorcery”. (“Isis”, vol. 1, ch. 5, p. 144)

Under this fluid Helena Petrovna implies a magnetic fluid or animal magnetism. This fluid, like the electric and magnetic current subordinated to molecular motion, when the flow of electrons is moving from one end of wire to another.

In the article “Hypnotism, And Its Relations to Other Modes of Fascination” Helena Petrovna says: “…every organic or "inorganic" body in nature is distinguished by its fixed molecular oscillations”.

The first scientist, who gave a comprehensible explanation of the magnetic influence of people on each other for his time, was a Florentine physician, professor of philosophy, Marsilio Ficino, who lived in the 15th century. He asserted that a magnetic connection between people is carried out by means of a certain spirit or vapour that passes from one person to another; this process being subject to the desire, attention and will.

An Italian philosopher of the 15th and 16th centuries, Pietro Pomponazzi believed that the magnetic force effects differently on different people, from a very great degree to a minimal one. This force depends on the strength of human will, the liveliness of human imagination, degree of desire and belief, and on the transfer of a certain ‘subtle vapour” that connects one person with another.

Paracelsus who lived in the 16th century left an indelible trace. According to Paracelsus man as a microcosm contains something derived from celestial bodies. This something is a subtle substance having magnetic properties. Each body part has its own planet, affecting everything that is in its "run" by the all-pervading ether.

A man as a whole is a magnet: a head is a positive pole, feet are a negative one. The same principle of polarity can be applied to every organ of the human body. Paracelsus believed that a dual current of magnetic fluids was circulating all the time in the body of a healthy person. With its positive pole it absorbs some planetary ether, which feeds our mind, thought, memory and intellect, and with its negative one – substances restoring strength, body and blood.

In her “Isis Unveiled” (vol. 1, ch. 5) Helena Petrovna quotes Robert Hunt, F. R. S., from his Researches on Light in its Chemical Relations: “How is it possible to account for this satisfactorily upon any other hypothesis than that both animal and vegetable life are differently modified electro-magnetic phenomena, as yet unknown in their fundamental principles?”

Electromagnetic oscillations or vibrations are a kind of electromagnetic phenomena.

Almost 150 years have passed those lines were written, and most people now realize that a person with the higher vibrations is constantly in a state of inner joy, calm, peace and love.

He feels good as he is in harmony with the surrounding world and with himself. In the state of such a balance, the whole body functions smoothly.

Any improper act, negative thoughts and feelings pollute our bodies, aggravate them, and a person begins to vibrate at lower frequencies. There are expressions: "callous soul", "dirty mind", which also indicate low vibrations of the soul and mind.

Since theosophy deals with the study of occult knowledge, it has its own view on similar vibrations. Such aspect of the question is known so far by few of its students.

Here is what the Master K. H. said in his first letter to A. O. Hume:

“Because every thought of man upon being evolved passes into the inner world and becomes an active entity by associating itself — coalescing, we might term it — with an elemental; that is to say with one of the semi-intelligent forces of the kingdoms. It survives as an active intelligence, a creature of the mind's begetting, for a longer or shorter period proportionate with the original intensity of the cerebral action which generated it. Thus, a good thought is perpetuated as an active beneficent power; an evil one as a maleficent demon”.

It is clear that by negative thoughts we lower the quality of vibrations and waste much vital energy. The Master wrote in the same letter as follows:

“You cause a waste of cosmic energy by tons, to accumulate hardly a few ounces in your volumes — to speak figuratively”.

“We waste cosmic energy” on sectarian prejudices that separate people. And if you think about the fact that the vibrations we create echo throughout the entire cosmos, how much our responsibility increases not only for committed actions, spoken words, but also for unspoken thoughts.

So, Helena Petrovna writes in the Würzburg manuscript of The Secret Doctrine, in her comments on stanza VII:

“There are millions and millions of worlds and firmaments visible to us; there are still greater numbers beyond those visible to the telescopes, and, as many of the latter kind that do not belong to our objective sphere of existences. Although as invisible as though they were a million of miles beyond our solar system, they are yet with us, near us, within our own world, as objective and material to their respective inhabitants as ours is to us”.

What is true for envy, it is absolutely true for the other senses creating corresponding vibrations. And the more intensive these feelings, the sooner they spread.

Whenever we are surrounded by negative excited feelings, images, and events, it's the very time to replace them, concentrating our mind on positive and uplifting thoughts.

Recent events are a stark illustration of this process. By April 2020 the new coronavirus 2019 has spread to dozens of countries.

All spheres of human life, namely physical, mental and moral, are closely intertwined. Therefore, the physical epidemic is accompanied by a mental and moral epidemic, and the mental virus of fear is transmitted many times faster.

Is it the horror for most people, or the opportunity for a thoughtful person to realize the true and illusory in this life? To the Theosophist this is an opportunity to explain the psychological mechanism of the epidemic, from an occult point of view.

You can say: “Well, who will hear us?” As man is a rational creature, the basis of all mental processes is thinking. And we are told by the Master: “Because every thought of man upon being evolved passes into the inner world and becomes an active entity by associating itself… with an elemental”.

Theosophy teaches us that all our actions, words and thoughts are impressed on the astral light. The astral light is like the negative of the photographer, and our mind is the light-sensitive paper under it. And whatever pictures or images we impress on the astral light, the same images come back to us, but each is more vivid each time, like in the case of chain reaction. And if our actions or words look quite respectable, but the thoughts that reflect the motivation, are quite different, impressions will have a negative connotation.

Helena Petrovna in her article "Conversations on occultism," says: “And so long as mankind does not cultivate brotherly feeling and charity towards the whole of creation, just so long will the elementals be without the impulse to act for our benefit”.

The same law of karma – "as you sow, so shall you reap" or the law of "boomerang", is well known in our days.

The more we impress the correct and benevolent thoughts on the astral light, the easier it will be for the seeking mind to pick them up with its antenna.

So let us not miss this opportunity to lift the veil of ISIS and explain to people that salvation from epidemics is to acquire correct knowledge, overcoming prejudices of fear, of self and separateness from other people.

In the above-mentioned letter, the Master writes:

“Enquiry that only unmasks error, without discovering anything upon which the soul can build, will but make iconoclasts. Iconoclasm from its very destructiveness can give nothing, it can only raze. But man can not rest satisfied with bare negation”.

After explaining the mechanism of formation of prejudice one should show the path of liberation and further development of consciousness. And real love is not “Jesuit” love, believing that the end justifies the means, but a sincere wish of good.

In “Conversations on occultism” Helena Petrovna further warned: “And so long as mankind does not cultivate brotherly feeling and charity towards the whole of creation, just so long will the elementals be without the impulse to act for our benefit”.

And in “The Secret Doctrine” Helena Petrovna says:

“Evil is a necessity, and one of supporters, of the manifested universe. It is necessary for progress and evolution as Night is necessary for the production of Day and Death for that of life – that man may live forever.”

There is no great loss without some small gain. So teaches the Sutra 2:23 Yoga of Patanjali translated by Kate Holcombe:

"the Inability to distinguish between the temporary, fluctuating mind and our true self, which is eternal, is the cause of our suffering, but this suffering gives us the opportunity to see this difference, to learn from it and grow by understanding the true nature of every creature".

In this situation, many reasonable people are spreading positive information to support people around the world through social media. Though externally people are more isolated, on the internal plane some consolidation can be observed.

There is a natural process of evolution towards the pure Light, one of which differentiations is the prototype of the Universal Brotherhood – beyond time or space. And if we strive to create a nucleus of Universal Brotherhood throughout the world, the most affordable way is to raise our own vibrations by cleansing thoughts, and as a result our feelings and behaviour.
