H. P. Blavatsky

Sapta Tathâgata. The chief seven Nirmânakâyas among the numberless ancient world‐guardians. Their names are inscribed on a heptagonal pillar kept in a secret chamber in almost all Buddhist temples in China and Tibet. The Orientalists are wrong in thinking that these are “the seven Buddhist substitutes for the Rishis of the Brahmans.” (See “Tathâgata‐gupta”).
