Summary
Description
A Subaltern's Bungalow. One engraving from the four-panel illustration Scenes in Southern India, published in The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, 28 November 1874, printed p. 212. It depicts a bungalow with tiered thatched roofs, trees and several figures. The artist and engraver have not been identified.
The composition matches the upper-left panel of the collage on H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 1, page 81, item 1. The other two panels of that album collage are separate images and are not included in this file. The date of the newspaper image is distinct from the 25 November 1875 date of the unrelated article on the album page.

File and processing
JPEG, 1957 × 1244 pixels. This is one panel, not a full newspaper page or an album scan. It was prepared directly from the existing full-resolution 3286 × 4845 JPEG of image bsb11305745_00220. The full source was retained unchanged. It was first transposed 90 degrees clockwise without resampling. A four-corner perspective alignment and crop were then applied with one bicubic resampling.
The source panel corresponds to IIIF region 100,2500,1600,2200, rotation 90. In the clockwise-rotated full leaf, the four printed-frame corners used for alignment are (331,460), (2249,483), (2239,1613), and (322,1574), clockwise from the top left. The full master, rather than the tighter IIIF extract, provided the original paper below the caption. No added background was used.
The complete engraved composition, printed frame and original caption are retained with small paper margins. The partial heading above the panel and excess outer paper are outside the crop. No enlargement, colour or tonal correction, sharpening, retouching or reconstruction was applied. The paper colour and the scan's colour artefacts remain.
