Summary

Description

Clemence S. Lozier, M.D., matching the engraved portrait on H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 1, page 9, image item 3. The curls and individual strand branches, face stippling, circular brooch, shawl hatching and sleeve monogram correspond to the album. The monogram is retained without an unsupported attribution to an engraver.

The printed caption differs from the album. The album credits Woman's Words and the Philadelphia School of Design for Women. This later magazine impression is a verified witness to the same portrait, not proof of the precise Woman's Words issue, first publication, physical source or date of the album cutting. The album wording and manuscript note are unchanged.

The Phrenological Journal and Science of Health, June 1888, printed p. 306, obituary continuing on p. 307. The bound title reads vol. LXXXII old series / vol. XXXIII new series, January to June 1888, New York: Fowler & Wells Co., 775 Broadway, 1888. Those printed volume numbers are retained. No issue number is inferred. Generic Internet Archive dates/titles do not override the physically inspected 1888 title page and printed June/p. 306.

The portrait also occurs in a poorer later copy in the February 1894 journal, p. 71, Fig. 123. That witness does not make either impression the first publication. This sharper 1888 colour scan preserves natural cream paper, fine hatching, small age marks and the complete border/caption.

Lossless RGB PNG, 1840 × 2320 pixels, cropped directly from the received 2644 × 4373 page JPEG, box (420, 1080)–(2260, 3400), right/bottom exclusive. Complete portrait, border, monogram and printed caption remain. The upper border differs by only one pixel between the measured left and right sections across approximately 1400 pixels: no additional rotation was necessary. No resampling, enlargement, tonal adjustment, colourization, sharpening, retouching or reconstruction. Decoded PNG pixels independently reproduce the exact source rectangle. The original JPEG is unchanged, SHA-256 90c2821f2c0aedd64c8f45741e144d7b53a20cabf9e5482e06eaa9cf4a5b8c78. The delivered page size is not claimed as the complete uncropped camera frame.
