Summary

Description

Governor's Mansion, Austin. Homer S. Thrall, A Pictorial History of Texas, from the Earliest Visits of European Adventurers, to A.D. 1879, fifth edition, carefully revised (St. Louis: N. D. Thompson & Co., 1879), an unnumbered plate. The scan preserves a Library of Congress deposit stamp dated 1880; that later stamp is not the publication date.

The mansion, columns, fence, two pedestrians, horse-drawn carriage and arched sky match the scrapbook engraving. The captions differ slightly: the scrapbook has The Governor's Mansion—Austin, while this book has Governor's Mansion. Austin. This 1879 witness is later than the stated 1875–1878 range of scrapbook volume 3. It documents reuse of the same engraving; it does not establish the first publication or the physical source of the scrapbook cutting. Compared with H. P. Blavatsky's Scrapbooks, volume 3, page 75, item 2.
