Editor's notes

  1. ↑ The Theosophists at Guntoor by A correspondent (signed as A correspondent), Vivekavarthani, The, Wednesday, May 31, 1882. An occasional correspondent reports the Founders' May 15–18 visit to Guntoor, lectures in English and Telugu, and the organisation of a branch with about twenty-two initiates. Authority sources identify the journal's standard title spelling as Vivekavardhani and its place of publication as Rajahmundry; the mounted English masthead itself reads The Vivekavarthani.
  2. ↑ The Theosophical Society by unknown author, Madras Native Opinion, Wednesday, May 31, 1882. The notice records the return of H. S. Olcott and H. P. Blavatsky to Madras after a tour in the Nellore and Krishna districts.
  3. ↑ Lecture by unknown author, Madras Native Opinion, Wednesday, May 31, 1882. The notice announces Olcott's lecture on “Aryan Civilisation” at Pacheappa's Hall for June 1 at 6 p.m. and gives ticket prices and the place of sale.
  4. ↑ The Seeds of Theosophy by unknown author, Indian, The, [June 3, 1882]; place and issue identity not established. The article considers the effect of the Founders' work on educated Indian youth and argues for evidence and self-examination instead of sectarian denunciation. The clipping preserves the exact masthead The Indian and a bracketed date, but no place, editor or unambiguous serial identity has been established.
  5. ↑ Madame Blavatsky on Hindu Widow-Marriage by H. P. Blavatsky (signed as H. P. Blavatsky), Madras Times, The, Madras, Tuesday, June 6, 1882. Blavatsky's letter to Dewan Bahadur Ragunath Row supports reform of Hindu child-widow marriage law. The mounted masthead explicitly dates this clipping June 6; later bibliographies, including Blavatsky's Collected Writings, cite June 9, so the primary clipping date is retained and the discrepancy is not silently normalised. A handwritten scrapbook note points to A Modern Panarion, p. 245.
