Editor's notes

  1. ↑ ...of the blood so rapidly that a sufficient quantity is not left behind... by unknown author (signed as Philanthropist), Arya, The (Lahore), Lahore, May 1882, p. 53; conclusion only, title not preserved. Only the conclusion of this discussion of intoxicating liquors is mounted. It begins at the top of printed p. 53 in mid-sentence and ends with the signature “Philanthropist”; the preceding portion and its printed title are absent from the scrapbook. Printed pp. 51–52 are likewise not represented in the mounted May sequence, but the article is not assigned to either page without evidence.
  2. ↑ The Arya Samaj and the Theosophical Society by unknown author, Arya, The (Lahore), Lahore, May 1882, pp. 53–57. The article announces that the alliance between the Arya Samaj and the Theosophical Society has ended and sets out four allegations against the Society’s founders. The July 1882 Extra Supplement to The Theosophist, under “The Effects of Theosophy in India,” explicitly quotes the same four allegations as coming from the May number of The Arya. This article continues through scrapbook pages 142–145 and ends on printed p. 57.
