Editor's notes
- ↑ Editorial Notes by unknown author, Amrita Bazar Patrika, The, Calcutta, Thursday, June 8, 1882. The note replies to a letter in The Theosophist signed “Aletheia,” which urged the Society’s founders to be more charitable towards their enemies. The clipping preserves the masthead and exact date but no printed page number; no open scan of the complete issue has been found.
- ↑ Circular Notice to Members by unknown author (signed as Damodar K. Mavalankar), Bombay; undated circular issued by the manager of The Theosophist. Damodar K. Mavalankar asks members to relieve the correspondence burden at headquarters and to obtain new subscribers to The Theosophist. The circular prints subscription rates for India, Ceylon, Australia, China, Europe, America and Africa. No date appears on the mounted sheet, so the surrounding 1882 clippings are not used to invent a month or day.
- ↑ In Re Rev. Mr. Cook in India by unknown author (signed as Damodar K. Mavalankar), Banner of Light, v. 51, No. 7, Boston, Saturday, May 6, 1882, p. 10. The exact issue confirms the complete letter, title, signature, authorial date and printed page. Mavalankar encloses Madras and Bombay publications and argues that Joseph Cook’s Indian tour harmed rather than advanced Christianity.
- ↑ Notes by the Way by unknown author (signed as M. A. (Oxon.)), Light, v. 2, No. 72, May 20, 1882, p. 234. Only the closing paragraph of this recurring column is mounted. The exact issue restores the column title and confirms the signature; the excerpt asks The Theosophist to disavow a recent attack on London Spiritualists and notes that Light had apologised for an attack on Madame Blavatsky.
- ↑ Letter from Dr. Peebles by Peebles, James Martin, Light, v. 2, No. 72, May 20, 1882, p. 234. Light prints extracts from a letter by J. M. Peebles to J. J. Morse. The scrapbook preserves only the opening portion, through the remarks on Buddhism in Ceylon; the remainder of the item on printed p. 234 is not mounted.
