The serialization of G. R. S. Mead’s translation remained unfinished. In May 1891 a six-month suspension was announced.
M. G. Schwartze’s Latin translation was published posthumously by J. H. Petermann in 1851. G. R. S. Mead substantially revised his English translation in 1921. G. Horner’s 1924 translation was made directly from Coptic, with an introduction by F. Legge.
Note. The date of composition should be distinguished from the surviving manuscript: the British Library catalogue dates the Askew Codex to 301–699 and gives 178 folios (356 pages), differing from the manuscript description in BCW.
