Anna Kingsford
(16 September 1846 − 22 February 1888)
English physician, anti-vivisectionist, vegetarian campaigner and women's rights advocate; one of the first women to qualify as a physician in England (M.D., Paris). A Theosophist, she became president of the London Lodge of the Theosophical Society in 1883, together with Edward Maitland, with whom she co-authored The Perfect Way, or the Finding of Christ (1882). Disagreements with A. P. Sinnett over the Society's Eastern orientation led her to leave the London Lodge and found the Hermetic Society in 1884.
