English barrister and Doctor of Laws; at one time Editor of the New Era magazine, the organ of the Reformed Jews in New York. Was a leader in the Cremation Movement. He assisted in the formation of The Theosophical Society, and was elected its Recording Secretary. In 1878 he was sent as Presidential Agent by the Council of the T.S. in New York, to assist in the formation of the British Theos. Society.
