Andrew Jackson Davis
(English: Andrew Jackson Davis)
(11 August 1826 − 13 January 1910)
American Spiritualist and Seer, known as "the Poughkeepsie Seer." While in trance, 1845-47, he delivered 157 lectures published as Principles of Nature, Her Divine Revelations, and A Voice to Mankind, followed eventually by some twenty-six works forming his "Harmonial Philosophy," among them The Great Harmonia (1850-52), The Philosophy of Spiritual Intercourse (1856) and The Penetralia (1856). His writings contain scattered ideas and conceptions reminiscent of The Secret Doctrine, especially regarding the origin and evolution of worlds. H.P.B. had profound respect for Davis, whom she considered to be a Seer, and quoted more than once his warnings against intercourse with unprogressed entities in the astral world. (BCW 1:455-459).
Works listed include Death and the After-Life (1866), Stellar Key to the Summerland (1868), and Spiritual Congress. A fuller biography is referenced in BCW I, 455-459. (BCW 2:526).
