Gerard Brown Finch
(1835–1913)
English barrister and Theosophist. Served as president of the London Lodge and became the first president of the Blavatsky Lodge in 1887.
Elected president of the London Lodge on 7 April 1884 at the meeting unexpectedly attended by H. P. Blavatsky. Answered A. Lillie’s Koot Hoomi Unveiled in a separate pamphlet printed in London in 1884. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 6:269, BCW 6:xxviii)
In late January or early February 1887, visited H. P. Blavatsky at Ostend with B. Keightley to urge her to move to London; they returned a few weeks later. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 7:xxviii)
Resigned as President of the Blavatsky Lodge and from the Theosophical Society in October 1887. B. de Zirkoff relates the disagreement chiefly to the Lodge’s decision to engage in public advocacy of Theosophy. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 8:xxii)
