Valentinus
(2nd century AD)
An Egyptian Gnostic of the second century, teaching Greek science and literature in Alexandria about AD 130. His exact dates are unknown. B. de Zirkoff considers Hippolytus’s Philosophumena the most reliable source on his teachings. The Esoteric Treatise on the Doctrine of Gilgul quoted by H. P. Blavatsky and attributed by her to Valentinus remains unidentified. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 12:580)
