Gnosticism
B. de Zirkoff describes it as a syncretistic philosophical and religious movement combining Babylonian, Jewish, Persian, Egyptian and Greek elements with early Christian teachings. Gnosis in this account means spiritual knowledge attained through mystical enlightenment rather than ordinary intellectual processes. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 13:6-7)
