Barlaam and Josaphat

A Christian adaptation of a Buddha legend, transmitted in many European and Eastern languages. B. de Zirkoff traces Josaphat to Bodhisattva through intermediate Persian forms and regards the traditional attribution of the Greek text to John of Damascus as questionable. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 5:240)
