(Persian: گبر‎ gæbr; from Aramaic gbrʾ/gabrā – man)

Out of date name of Zoroastrians. This was the name given to the free inhabitants of Mesopotamia in Sasanian Iran. The name, apparently, was transferred from the Zoroastrian community of Mesopotamia to all Zoroastrians during the Islamization of Iran
