I write to acknowledge the receipt this morning of your splendid volumes (which have been in the office for a few days) enhanced by your friendly autograph

I see at a glance that it is a very extraordinary work, in a brilliant [illegible]. I shall steal what time is possible from pressing duties to look over it, and probably may be able to do something to promote its reputation
