The god of learning (the Greek Imouthes). He was the son of Ptah, and in one aspect Hermes, as he is represented as imparting wisdom with a book before him. He is a solar god; lit., “the god of the handsome face “ (TG). B. de Zirkoff could not identify the particular figure intended by H. P. Blavatsky; he lists three seated bronze statuettes of Imhotep in the British Museum, nos. 40666, 63800 and 64495. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 9:20-21)
