Indische Altertumskunde
(German; original spelling: Indische Alterthumskunde; “Indian Antiquities”.)
Also: • Indische Alterthumskunde •
A German-language study of Indian geography, history and culture by Christian Lassen. Its four volumes first appeared in 1847-1861, with an appendix to volumes III-IV in 1862. Revised editions of volumes I and II appeared in 1867 and 1874 respectively. (Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie, “Lassen, Christian”)
Bibliographic distinction: the four-volume set catalogued by Christ’s College, Cambridge comprises volumes dated 1867, 1874, 1858 and 1861; the revised first two volumes should not be described as a new edition of all four volumes. ()
