John of Damascus
Eastern Christian writer and liturgical poet from Damascus, also known by the Arabic name Mansur. Opposed iconoclasm and lived in the monastery of St Sabas near Jerusalem; works associated with him include The Fountain of Knowledge and the traditionally attributed Barlaam and Josaphat. (BCW 5:381).
