(5 November 1839 − 5 September 1892)

(1839–1892)

An English clergyman, writer and spiritualist medium. He joined the Theosophical Society in 1876 and corresponded with H. P. Blavatsky and H. S. Olcott. He wrote under the name M. A. Oxon., edited Light and published Spirit Teachings.

Writing as “M.A. (Oxon.),” he published Psychography (1878; second edition, 1882) and Spirit Identity (1879). (BCW 4:661).

Bibliographical references include: Visions, London, 1888 (BCW 9:445).

As “M.A. (Oxon.)”, reviewed The Stars and the Earth. His article on spirit identity appeared in London’s Light on 28 April 1883, no. 121, pp. 198-199; both texts occasioned comments by H. P. Blavatsky. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 4:284, BCW 4:583)

Writing as M. A. (Oxon.) in Light of 1 December 1883, p. 519, rejected the charge of disparaging Theosophy: he explained that his irony targeted the St. James’ Gazette critic rather than Theosophists. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 5:349)
