Wendell Phillips
(29 November 1811 − 2 February 1884)
American orator, writer and reformer. Early became identified with the anti-slavery movement; at the age of twenty-six took his place in the front rank of the movement after his speech at Faneuil Hall in 1837. Also advocated prohibition, reform in penal methods, votes for women, and the labor movement. Among his many orations, "The Lost Arts," which he delivered more than two thousand times, was a speech H.P.B. thought very highly of and quoted on numerous occasions. (BCW 1:522-523).
