Russian novelist and poet (1849-1903), son of the historian Sergei Solovyov. Initially friendly with H. P. Blavatsky after meeting her in Paris in 1884, he later attacked her in A Modern Priestess of Isis, issued as a book in 1893; an abridged English translation appeared in 1895. (BCW 6:446).
For his biography and writings, the appendix refers to page 332 of the present volume and volume VI, page 446. (BCW 7:395).
B. de Zirkoff identifies him as the unnamed Russian in H. P. Blavatsky’s account of C. Richet’s entry into the Theosophical Society. Solovyov also described the reported visit of a Mahatma at Elberfeld on the night of 26–27 August 1884 in a letter dated 1 October 1884, printed in the Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 7:332-334)
