Editor and publisher of the Franklin Register, a newspaper in Franklin, Massachusetts, which published H. P. Blavatsky’s defence of her Masonic diploma. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 1:307) (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 1:435) The middle name has not been established. Both BCW and the 1873 newspaper directory name him James M. Stewart; the initial M. is retained without expansion. (Geo. P. Rowell & Co.’s American Newspaper Directory (1873), p. 104)
