George Turnour

(English: George Turnour)

British orientalist and Ceylon civil servant (1799-1843), a Pali scholar who published the Mahavamsa with an English translation in 1837. His research identified King Piyadassi of the rock edicts with Ashoka. (BCW 2:546-547).
